The fund is focused on highly structured opportunities in biofuel production, transportation, logistics and distribution opportunities in North America, as well as agriculture technology. We emphasize carbon reduction, local economic and environmental benefits, long duration contracts with high quality counterparties, and limited or no commodity price risk.
Paul Tanico, Founder
Mr. Tanico has over 30 years of experience in the investment business, initially in research at David J. Greene & Co. (70 year old, NY-based, $2 billion value investing firm acquired by Lehman) and then as a Portfolio Manager at Atalanta Sosnoff ($10 billion large cap equity and fixed income asset management firm), Neuberger Berman (established in 1939, one of the world’s largest private, independent employee-controlled asset management companies, managing nearly $175 billion in assets) and Omega Advisors ($5 billion fundamental research driven long/short equity fund), where he was one of the original partners prior to founding CastleRock in 1993.
Mr. Tanico received a B.S. in Finance and Accounting from New York University in 1977 and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1980 and is a member of the New York State Bar. He is a member of or has served on the following boards: NYU Stern Board of Overseers, NYU Stern Executive Board, Dean’s Planning Council of Fordham University School of Law, Board of Trustees of Public Broadcast Station WNET, Trinity School in New York City, and Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, New York.
John Murphy, Executive Director, Biofuels
John is a finance professional with close to fifteen years of experience in the energy industry. He is currently a full-time entrepreneur with private investments in a range of sectors. Prior to embarking on his numerous ventures, he was a senior analyst on an energy and infrastructure long-short equity portfolio at Millennium Partners LP in New York and Highbridge Capital Partners in San Francisco. John also worked as a Vice President in the Global Energy Group at Credit Suisse, and as an associate in the Natural Resources Group at Banc of America Securities. While at Credit Suisse, John advised numerous companies across multiple sectors on a combination of debt and equity financings and M&A transactions. John holds an MBA from Georgia Tech and a BS in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame.
